Kopke Fine White Port
Kopke first began as a shipping company in 1638. It eventually became internationally recognised as the very first Port House in the industry. In 1781 they became a major producer of Port when they bought a farm in the Douro and began to focus their business entirely on port production. Since then, Kopke has won many gold medals and other numerous awards for their excellent ports, particularly those in the Tawny style.
The ports are immediately recognisable by the hand-stencilled labelling which has not changed in centuries. All the bottles are still hand stencilled in the traditional way to this day.
The wonderful fine white port by Kopke is made from a field blend of white grape varieties which are then fermented in stainless steel and aged for a minimum of three years.
The result is a wine showing a rather pleasant orangey-brown in the glass. The rounded flavours are predominantly apricot, vanilla, spice and almond. Serve chilled in a wine glass or with soda or tonic in a tall glass for a refreshing cocktail.
You could serve with a bakewell tart, sponge pudding or hard cheeses. This stays perfectly drinkable for a month – 6 weeks if kept in the fridge.
