1701 Franciacorta – Brut NV
Franciacorta was the first wine in Italy to be made using the “champagne method” of fermenting for a second time within the bottle. Long aging in the bottle on the lees (the yeast sediment) gives Franciacorta wines a complexity of flavour not present in the simpler style of sparkling wines such as prosecco. The grapes in Franciacorta are a variety of Champagne grapes, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Fairly full for the style balanced by a zingy acidity. Mineral hints softened by fresh fruits, notably red apple and light brioche notes. Most definitely dry.
