Arran Quarter Cask
Arran’s The Bothy single malt has been so well received by whisky lovers it has joined the Island distillery’s permanent range.
Matured initially in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, for 7 years – it is then finished for two years in American Oak quarter casks. These are far smaller than the casks that are usually used and it impacts the flavour in a big way; there is an incredible intensity of flavour due to the greater contact between the whisky and the oak.
The resulting whisky is a full-bodied expression of Arran Single Malt combining power, finesse and full of rich vanilla sweetness and bold peppery spice.
Bottling at natural Cask Strength without chill-filtration or artificial colouring of any sort allows this whisky to be enjoyed in its purest form.Â
Small casks would have been a very common feature of the Arran whisky trade in the eighteenth & nineteenth centuries as they were much easier to handle and transport around the island. With this much-loved Quarter Cask expression the tradition has been brought back to life.
