Chateau Peyros Heritage Madiran
Madiran is a rather wonderful but hidden corner of south west France with rolling hillsides and breath-taking glimpses of the snowy peaks of the Pyrenees around every corner. Situated just over an hour’s drive from Bordeaux, it is pretty accessible and we think deserves greater recognition although we still want to be able to enjoy our holidays there so dont tell too many people!
Château Peyros has been owned by the Lesgourgues family since 1999 and there has been major investment in the vineyards and the cellar since then. There are seventeen hectares of vines, mainly planted with Tannat, together with some Cabernet Franc.
The soils are silty clay and are full of large stones deposited by mountain glaciers (Peyros means stony in Gascon). Sustainable practices are a priority and both Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3 and Terra Vitis certifications have been achieved.Â
Expressive, with black fruits so typical of Tannat – well balanced with subtle notes of cherry. Â
