Dorper – Stellenbosch Pinotage
Dorper is the passion project created by Reg Holder (previously of Delheim winery) and viticulturist Etienne Terblanche, focusing on using Burgundian sensitivities of terroir when growing Pinotage and Chenin Blanc.Â
This wine is 100% Pinotage, made using a blend of different parcels from granite and shale soils respectively. The grapes were not crushed and some whole bunches were used, resulting in a lighter expression of this typically heavy grape. It is aromatic and vibrant, with an abundance of black forest fruit flavours and aromas, with a perfumed, floral touch consistently coming through. The tannins are pleasantly soft and integrated, whilst providing a supporting complexity to the structure.
This Pinotage was rated in the top 5 of South Africa’s best Pinotage’s in 2022 by MW Tim Atkin.
