G&M – Connoisseurs Choice – Balblair 1997 – Whisky
This Balblair 1997 is a single malt Scotch whisky made in the Balblair distillery situated in the Highlands.
The Balblair 1997 is a cask strength, limited edition bottling from Gordon & Macphail that has been matured in sherry butt cask no 1885. It is non-chill filtered which allows the full flavour profile of the whisky to develop.
The aroma of this whisky is described as being rich, complex with sweet notes of honey and raisins followed by hints of malt and oak. On the palate it is full bodied and warming with a sweet and tangy flavour, complemented by the spicy oak character of the sherry butt cask. The finish is long and smooth and has a lingering sweet raisin flavour on the tongue.
The Balblair distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland, dating back to 1790 when it was founded by John Ross. It is located in the small village of Edderton with views over the Dornoch Firth. The distillery produces a range of premium single malt Scotch whiskies which are well known for their fruity and complex flavour profiles.
