Niepoort LBV Port 2019
Francisco van der Niepoort came to Portugal from Holland in 1842 to try his hand at the port trade. Five generations later, Niepoort remains a family business with great-great-grandson Dirk Niepoort establishing it as not only one of the most respected Port houses but also internationally renowned wine producers today. Niepoort’s success with dry wine production has lead the way for the Douro (and for Portugal as a whole) to emerge as a top region on the global stage.
We have long been fans of the inimitable Dirk Niepoort and so we are delighted to now be able to share these great wines with our customers.
This fantastic LBV is a full-bodied red Port made from a selection of wines from a single vintage. Aged for 4 to 6 years in large wooden casks to achieve a rounded, mature character. The extended ageing period allows the LBV to be enjoyed soon after bottling.
The 2019 vintage is dark ruby in the glass with a red rim. It has a powerful aroma of dark chocolate, fruits of the forest and a hint of spice. The palate has a medium weight with a firm structure and acidity, which provides excellent freshness and a spicy and warming finish. It is great to drink now, dominated by freshness and primary fruit flavour. However, it can be aged for a couple of decades.
